Following
are many of the steps included in a standard 2SS.Com PC installation and
which we borrow from in our
routine tune-up procedures.
·
Windows Vista, XP or 2000
are updated with all recent service packs as well as security, application and
performance patches and fixes.
 |
Internet Explorer is updated
with all recent security and recommended patches and fixes (To avoid conflicts
with other software [ACT, Goldmine, QuickBooks, etc.] many clients are
purposely kept on the 6.0
rather than the 7.0 or 8.0 versions of Internet Explorer).
|
 |
Windows Vista or XP Firewall is
verified as active. |
·
If appropriate New software
packages are installed, updated and configured for your use including

recommend staying one to two years behind the current version.)

Various software tools are
installed on every PC including:

·
New root level folders are
established and used for various purposes including:
 |
‘C:\2_Delete’ containing items
from the desktop and elsewhere that are probably not of use. |
 |
‘C:\x_Software to Install’
containing software that was downloaded for updating this PC. |
 |
‘C:\x_Old PC’ as a file archive
for all files from any former PC (see below) |
·
Internet Explorer Favorites are
initialized with our 2SS.Com standard folders and if appropriate, we’ve
transferred favorites from any former PC to the newer one.
·
Standard 2SS.Com
customizations are applied to the system including the:
 |
Implementation of ‘Explorer
at My Desktop’ and ‘Your Organization's Name’ Favorites on the start menu (This
includes a link to
2SS.Com Get Help Now, our remote support tool.)
|
 |
Setting of folder display
preferences to eliminate the ‘Web Page’ look of folders, maximize the file list
display and to set-up for quick file dragging operations between desktop windows
that are already positioned to facilitate it. |
 |
Setting of Windows Classic
preferences, if desired, to create a Windows XP look and operation similar to Windows 95, 98, 2000
Professional, XP and Vista.. |
 |
Addition in Windows XP & 2000 of Control Panel,
Networking and Printer choices to the ‘Programs’ menu. |
 |
Customizing of ‘Send To’
choices available when using the ‘Right’ mouse button on any file.
|
 |
Addition of Favorites folders
to assist in organizing favorites, and to provide a few typical links to search
engines, etc. |
·
The PC is completely scanned
with Norton’s WinDoctor to identify and remove various problems (Often
150 to 500 or more) that are typical of a new PC or one being scanned for
the first time.
·
The PC is also optimized via the
defragmentation (If needed what we call 'deep' defragmentation) of its hard disk
using opposing defragmentation tools.
