Standard PC Installation Features

Following are many of the steps included in a standard 2SS.Com PC installation and which we borrow from in our routine tune-up procedures.

 ·               Windows Vista,  XP or 2000 are updated with all recent service packs as well as security, application and performance patches and fixes.

Internet Explorer is updated with all recent security and recommended patches and fixes (To avoid conflicts with other software [ACT, Goldmine, QuickBooks, etc.] many clients are purposely kept on the 6.0 rather than the 7.0 or 8.0  versions of Internet Explorer).

Windows Vista or XP Firewall is verified as active.

·               If appropriate New software packages are installed, updated and configured for your use including

Norton SystemWorks 2006 à 2008 (We recommend staying one to two years behind the current version.)

·               Various software tools are installed on every PC including:

 A Send to Any Folder tool (In Windows XP)

 Adobe Acrobat 9.0 (Included with Google Updater

bullet

 PDF Redirect (A freeware print to ‘PDF’ tool)

bullet

 Windows Vista, XP or 2000 Power Toys

·               And, based on your needs we may selectively install:some of:

Cobian Backup for backing up files to USB drives and disks

·               New root level folders are established and used for various purposes including:

C:\2_Delete’ containing items from the desktop and elsewhere that are probably not of use.

bullet

C:\x_Software to Install’ containing software that was downloaded for updating this PC.

bullet

C:\x_Old PC’ as a file archive for all files from any former PC (see below)

·               Internet Explorer Favorites are initialized with our 2SS.Com standard folders and if appropriate, we’ve transferred favorites from any former PC to the newer one.

·               Standard 2SS.Com customizations are applied to the system including the:

Implementation of ‘Explorer at My Desktop’ and ‘Your Organization's Name’ Favorites on the start menu (This includes a link to 2SS.Com Get Help Now, our remote support tool.)

Setting of folder display preferences to eliminate the ‘Web Page’ look of folders, maximize the file list display and to set-up for quick file dragging operations between desktop windows that are already positioned to facilitate it.

Setting of Windows Classic preferences, if desired, to create a Windows XP look and operation similar to Windows 95, 98, 2000 Professional, XP and Vista..

Addition in Windows XP & 2000 of Control Panel, Networking and Printer choices to the ‘Programs’ menu.

Customizing of ‘Send To’ choices available when using the ‘Right’ mouse button on any file.

bullet

Addition of Favorites folders to assist in organizing favorites, and to provide a few typical links to search engines, etc.

·               The PC is completely scanned with Norton’s WinDoctor to identify and remove various problems (Often 150 to 500 or more) that are typical of a new PC or one being scanned for the first time.

·               The PC is also optimized via the defragmentation (If needed what we call 'deep' defragmentation) of its hard disk using opposing defragmentation tools.
