Why Dell?

2SS.Com has over 91 Dell desktops, notebooks, printers, servers, etc. in use by 20+ client.  It's the vast majority (but not all) of the equipment we support.  In general we know that an investment in a Dell PC or other Dell device is likely to pay off for years-and-years starting from when it's first installed, and in rare cases even after there's a problem.  We have a near 98+% track record of achieving resolutions, or to put it differently we've NEVER acquired a Dell PC that did not work either immediately, or with a subsequent replacement (we have had two completely replaced)!.  We like to say that we recommend, purchase, and install Dell, not necessarily because it's the cheapest or best PC we can buy (It may be!), but because we know that we can make a Dell product work, and work, and work!

What are the specific differentiators?

Here are a few of the item-by-item reasons why we believe Dell is such a strong brand:

  • Pricing is always competitive as as a Dell Partner 2SS.Com's discount is often close to our standard 10% mark-up. (This means that our pricing is typically the same or better than you'd find by purchasing from Dell directly.)

  • Product quality has for years been at or very near the cutting edge for most any of the PC-related technologies that interest our clients.

  • Support is well-established and generally of high quality.  When things go wrong having a support structure in place that works is essential.  With Dell we have one that has worked consistently over a long period of time, and as a bonus, one that we're familiar with.  It's value-added that can't be overstated!

  • A unique online inventory feature is just one of many Dell support tools.  The inventory feature permits us to access the individual 'as-sold' specifications for every PC and Dell device .  If a PC needs a replacement hard disk or more memory we can very quickly identify the precise requirements of the needed part, and begin the process of securing a replacement.

  • Online ordering at Dell is 'state-of-the-art', and backed up by a 'live' account rep. to help insure we get orders right the first time.

  • Support options include a full array of services ranging from 'online literature, troubleshooting guides, drivers and manuals' to 'same-day/next-day technician repair and options for out-of-warranty support'.

What about other brands?

There was a time (20+ years ago) when HP or IBM were the logical choices for top quality PCs but back then they were routinely higher priced too!  In the selection of network servers we believe that there is still not a strong challenger to HP, IBM & Dell as the BIG three.  In the critical area of support HP, Gateway, Sony, and others have made great strides in approaching, but certainly not exceeding the long track-record of quality support from Dell.  So we conclude that scarce investment dollars are best used on Dell equipment, and that any savings that might be available by going elsewhere are more-than-made-up by the value knowing investments will pay-off!

  1. AdAware Anniversary Edition Upgrade?  As we said last month, it's 'OK' to upgrade to this new version replaces 2008 version) , but be careful...  The download at Lavasoft is organized to encourage you to buy their update which includes virus checking and more.  Most 2SS.Com clients continue to need only the free spyware checking feature that you get by using the link in #1 above (Click Here to download).  AND, you may wish to turn off the 'always-on' icon that partially duplicates the Norton 'Auto-Protect' feature.  It can be removed from inside AdAware's Anniversary Edition by selecting the [Settings] button and the [Appearances] tab.  Then remove the check mark from the item labeled 'Hide taskbar icon' and press [OK]
  2. PASSED!   If you check on us at our Intuit QuickBooks Pro Advisor website you will see that we passed!  Just click on any 'CERTIFIED QuickBooks ProAdvisor' logo (like the one at right è), and you'll see three years [2007], [2008] and [2009] (An approx. 90 hours study/test investment) indicating that we're keeping up with our objective to be ready to serve you!
  3. WARNING Acrobat & Reader...  (Repeated from last month) There is a known problem which Adobe has acknowledged as follows:
    This is an update on the Adobe Reader and Acrobat issue (CVE-2009-0658) discussed in Security Advisory APSA09-01. As mentioned previously, Adobe currently plans to make available an update for Adobe Reader 9 and Acrobat 9 by March 11th. In addition, Adobe is also planning to make updates available for Adobe Reader 7 and 8, and Acrobat 7 and 8, by March 18th." (Click here to see the Adobe announcement.)  Immediately what you can do is to be careful to open ONLY PDF files that you know are safe.
  4.
