Wikipedia defines Phishing as:
"The attempt to obtain sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details (and, indirectly, money), often for malicious reasons, by disguising as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication."
It's a giant and growing problem:
- Phishing scams have increased dramatically while also becoming more-and-more sophisticated.
- The USPS Inspector General reports that about 156 million phishing emails are sent globally every day!
- Software security company SOPHOS estimated that Phishing schemes lead to as much as $3.1 billion in damages during 2016
