Reminder - WAIT A WEEK
Microsoft releases the
majority of 'routine' updates on the...
2nd Tuesday of the month. (e.g. Microsoft Patch
Tues.)
We are encouraging all
our clients to first adjust update settings as detailed below and
second to wait till after the
3rd Tuesday
of the month
This simple delay would have allowed all our 2SS.Com customers to avoid problems on two occasions in 2014 that were highly avoidable. We had a total of nine (9) PCs affected including one peer-to-peer server and one brand new PC being prepared for delivery. All but one were recovered within about six (6) days but that one was so compromised that it had to be wiped and re-built.
So we recommend MORE STRONGLY THAN EVER that you set your PC to advise you, but NOT download and NOT apply updates until you or 2SS.Com on your behalf choose to apply them. Those settings are easy to adjust and are available at:

[Start] -> [Settings] -> [Control Panel] -> [Windows Update] -> [Change Settings] (at top left) and select in the drop-down "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them" then press -> [OK]
These guidelines DO NOT apply to Ninite updates that we encourage you to run regularly, or at any time you notice prompts to update your free, utility, and anti-virus/anti-spyware protection software
