We often are focused by client on needs they have identified and need a plan to implement such as a network installation or upgrade that has the minimum impact on day-to-day operations.

Local and Wide-Area Network Design
We are very familiar with peer-to-peer and Microsoft Server-based networks.  And have a track record of minimizing investments while obtaining desired network connectivity for file and printer sharing, network applications, centralized backup, E-mail and Internet access.

Your PC's stuff Anywhere?

The first paragraphs of this E-News from 2SS.Com edition are coming together on Microsoft's WordWebApp using their SkyDrive service.  It lets users create new documents (or access ones they've already stored online) and format them with much of the typical formatting we're accustomed to (Even the links!).  And, it also checks spleeing (spelling) on-the-fly allowing you to click on a miss-spelled word and select a correction (As I just did for the 'spelling').

This is one among many tools that are rapidly becoming available to make possible what the media often refers to as 'Cloud Computing'.  Today it's possible with little or no investment to access much (not quite yet all) of the functionally of your desktop or notebook computer from any computer with an Internet connection. (ç Switching now to a desktop tool.è)

You test and try-out that assumption yourself at our Virtual PC demonstration website, www.2VPC.Com.  If you visit you'll find a desktop that looks very similar to the one on my desktop computer with links (top, desk-top icons and bottom right) that work to lead you to a full array of cloud-based tools to manage (and often back-up too!) many of the key items you need to be productive.  On the demonstration desktop you'll find:

  • Links to Microsoft's SkyDrive versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint (Top right)

  • An Outlook E-mail icon that connects to my Yahoo E-mail (It could of course be any E-mail service including Microsoft's Hotmail)

  • Icons for QuickBooks (online tool available for subscription use) and Quicken (A limited online tool that syncs with the desktop version of the software.  A similar but fully online tool is Mint also from Intuit the makers of Quicken.)

  • Icons for Internet Explorer that open a window to www.Google.Com

  • A desktop link to a perpetual Calendar set for 2010

  • And links to downloadable software including; AdAware for spyware checking, AtomTime for updating a PC's local time, Motorola Phone Tools for syncing a Razr phone ()like mine) to Outlook an CuteFTP (The tool I used to copy web pages [like the one at www.2VPC.Com to their websites).

  • Icons a the lower-right for SouthWest airlines, Mozy online backup, Google Calendar Sync (To keep Outlook and Google synchronized), RoboForm (A password manager and form filler with it's own online access and backup), Live Mesh (A Microsoft service that synchronizes up to 5 GB of your data.), XMarks (a tool to synchronize your favorites list on multiple PCs) and Web Messenger ( A fully functional internet version of Windows Messenger.)

In my case this really is a near majority of the data and applications (even financial) that I routinely work with combined with tools to generate new documents, to edit what exists, and to find and use all my usual favorites and passwords.  These tools, also continually synchronize and backed-up everything!

If any of this captures your interest please let us know, and we'll be pleased to  help you to begin to find...    ...your PC's stuff Anywhere?

 VIRTUAL PC LINKS:

Following are software titles and related links to help you begin to piece-together a virtual PC:

  1. SkyDrive - Microsoft's own words describe it as "Free 25 GB online storage means you can Store, access, and share your files online with friends or co-workers, fromIcon anywhere"  Once signed-up and logged-in on SkyDrive applications become available that include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote as shown at right. (To access SkyDrive click è here)

  2. Mozy - The online BackUp software that we've featured before, and that many of our clients use.  Home/personal users get up to 2GB of BackUp FREE, or for about $50 a year an unlimited amount of storage.  If you're home PC is NOT YET backed-up we recommend you STOP what you're doing RIGHT NOW, download and install Mozy backup,  (click è here).  (You'll actually get 2.3 GB of space by using this 2SS.Com 'referral link' and in the future you'll be able to get more space by referring others as well.)

  3. RoboForm -  At 2SS.Com we use a program called RoboForm that's very popular in it's category.  It works on your PC to remember and apply passwords and automatically fill-in forms any time you encounter them.  You can try RoboForm free for 30 days and continue using it FREE with limited functionality thereafter (click è here), but it's well worth the $29.95 registration fee (click è here) if your spending too much time 'logging-on' and 'filling-in'!  (P.S. RoboForm comes with 'GoodSync' a tool that will automate synchronizing your RoboForm files and other too!  It even allows you to synchronize to an online account for backup)

  4. XMarks - This tool synchronizes all your favorites and bookmarks across multiple browsers and computers.  It's a takes a bit to set-up, but once in place any change made in any browser is automatically synchronized elsewhere.  Even better one of the synchronized locations is a webpage you can log into to access your favorites from any PC on the Internet.  (To download XMarks click è here.)

  5. Ready Now? - Contact us to ask about helping you create a virtual PC for yourself similar to our demonstration website at www.2VPC.Com.  We'll build a desktop like the one you're familiar with, and that you can access by typing a simple address (e.g. 2VPC.Com/Name) into any browser anywhereAnd we'll help you begin to assemble and use the cloud-based tools that make sense for you.
