‘ giant leaps in effectiveness while dramatically ‘
‘ collapsing the time between those leaps… ‘

‘ * The Internet and World Wide Web ‘
‘ At 2SS.Com we accept as given that in the near ‘
‘ (e.g. 20 to 40 years) future intellect, or in other ‘
‘ terms ‘all human knowledge’, will be all available ‘
‘ all the time. ‘
‘ The questions that intrigue us are what will that ‘
‘ accumulated and preserved intellect allow us to ‘
‘ do. Already computer reasoning, although ‘
‘ basic, is a reality. If reasoning is added to ‘
‘ eternally growing and accessible intellect what’s ‘
‘ next? '
‘ Will mastering intellect and reasoning lead to ‘
‘ the ability to also store consciousness or even ‘
‘ conscience? What will those vessels be ‘
‘ ‘enhanced people’, ‘aware computers’, or? ‘
‘ We suggest that some dramatic increases in ‘
‘ longevity and are on the horizon. And, those
‘ living in this ‘living-longer’ era will also face new ‘
‘ challenges to our current definitions of man and ‘
‘ the only form of intelligent life on earth. ‘
‘ One of the many dilemma’s that will undoubtedly ‘
‘ take shape in our lives is one that your compiler ‘
‘ and editor, and no doubt many of you have so far
‘ simply taken in stride. I recently scheduled some ‘
‘ not-optional outpatient surgery. ‘
‘ 100 or more years ago it wouldn’t have been an ‘
‘ option. I’d be headed for at best a difficult rather ‘
‘ than optimistic prognosis. However, in 2000 I ‘
‘ agreed to and scheduled the procedure without
‘ any real hesitation. My acceptance and believe ‘
‘ in the involved technology was automatic. ‘
‘ In 40 or 60 years the choice may become ‘
‘ available to determine where you’d like your ‘
‘ intellect, your consciousness or even your ‘
‘ conscience to be kept for eternity. As a recently ‘
‘ re-charged Christian I wonder if the final test of ‘
‘ faith could become turning away from technology ‘
‘ and the choices it will inevitably create? ‘
‘ Will non-believes be the first to flock to the ‘
‘ technological alternatives to death? ‘

‘ ANY NEWS ON WINDOWS 2000? ‘
‘ Yes, we have gotten the Server version working ‘
‘ for a primary 2SS.Com client in an effort to make ‘
‘ a variety of development features available for a ‘
‘ current Intranet project. It’s working but not ‘
‘ without challenges like completing the set-up ‘
‘ initialization (several times) at the end that the ‘
‘ upgrade install would not run without at least ‘
‘ 700 MB of disk space available in the ‘
‘ boot partition. ‘
‘ After jumping that hurdle we were lucky to be ‘
upgrading from Windows NT. Apparently our ‘
‘ dual processor server would on a new install ‘
‘ NOT be recognized. We also had to make ‘
‘ some a-typical changes to a new (Feb 00) Dell ‘
‘ RAID array equipped server including a flash ‘
‘ upgrade to the RAID hardware and updated ‘
‘ drivers for Windows 2000 (the initial ones ‘
‘ failed). ‘
‘ It was NOT an easy upgrade, but since ‘
‘ conquering it we’ve found the software to be ‘
‘ ‘fuller-featured’ than ever and ‘at least as’ if not ‘
‘ ‘more’ user-friendly than NT 4.0. We encourage ‘
‘ you to experiment with it starting in the next ‘
‘ 6 to 10 months unless you have a strategic
‘ reason (as we did) to make it happen faster! ‘
‘ RIGHT-NOW WEB CHEAP AT $29,995. ‘

‘ RightNow Web is a web-based E-mail system ‘
‘ that applies artificial intelligence to managing
